Good morning. I am sending out this final information email pertaining to this year's AHSAA State Soccer Camp. The deadline for applications to be sent in is June 7th. You need to go online and fill out the application form or contact your district director and give him your application and fee. The cost of the camp this year is $125. This is less than in the past and may not be firm for the future. I hope you will attend this year while the cost is down. We all will be housed at a motel in Guntersville just down the road from the fields. Meals will be catered and transportation to the fields will be provided. Our camp staff has been reduced to help with the cost. I encourage you to attend for several reasons. The main one is to improve as an official. Our Central Board of Control has adopted a district wide assigning procedure for the football playoffs next year. This is a pilot program. If this goes well, then it is our expectations it will expand to all sports. Thus another crucial reason for you to come to camp. The directors and myself will be personally selecting officials for playoffs if this program expands to all sports. We will be selecting those based on our knowledge of the officials. We gain that knowledge by observing you at camp and then looking at you again during the season.
Hopefully, you will be able to attend. The dates of the camp are July 7th - 9th. Once you have been accepted and have paid the fee, I will send you all remaining pertinent information approx a week to ten days ahead of the camp.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your district director or myself.
Thanks for all you do!
Greg Brewer AHSAA

Referees,
Due to the recent disaster in North Alabama, AYSA board decided to postpone the DI/DII Spring State Cup by one week. The Preliminaries that were supposed to be held this coming weekend (May 6-8) have been re-scheduled for May 14-15 and the DI/DII Final 4 will be held May 21-22. Furthermore, the venues for both of these tournaments have moved from Decatur to Birmingham. Dean Johnson is still assigning the Preliminaries and Pat Miller will assign the Final 4.
Due to the change date and venue location, I would like everyone who sent me their availability for these weekends, as well as any others who are available to help out to send me a quick e-mail with the following information:
Name: Phone #: Available Saturday/Sunday May 14-15 or All Available Saturday/Sunday May 21-22 or All Need lodging (Y/N):
I need this information no later than 11:00 PM, Wednesday May 4th.
PS: There is no change to the President's cup and it will still be held in Decatur on June 9-12. Please disregard the assignments you received from Dean for the State Cup this coming weekend.

Frisco, TX, February 26, 2010: One of Prattville’s own got a glimpse of the spotlight recently when United States Youth Soccer (USYS) named Caleb Hindman the 2009 Young Male Referee of the Year for Region III, a region that encompasses 13 states from Florida to Texas. Hindman was first named 2009 Young Male Referee of the Year for Alabama and then Region III. Recently, Hindman attended the annual USYS banquet and workshops in Fort Worth, TX, where he was one of four candidates for the national 2009 Young Male Referee of the Year. Fox Soccer channel televised the event. Hindman started his referee career with the Prattville Leisure Services' soccer program in 2007 under the mentorship of Jamie Jackson, USSF Assigner and Secretary for the Central Alabama Soccer Officials Association (CASOA). Hindman currently referees club soccer, adult soccer, and high school soccer in his community and travels to tournaments around the State of Alabama.
In 2009, he was chosen to attend the Alabama Olympic Developmental Program (ODP) at the University of Montevallo where he received instruction from top USSF trainers and refereed top level games between the best youth players in Region III. The ODP is a prestigious and competitive program, which strives to develop players for the USA National Team. It is an honor to be able to referee such events, as the program also brings in some of the best referees from in and outside the USA. Caleb Hindman was nominated by Steven Carnes, USSF Assigner for AYSA games. It was approved by the State Referee Committee as the winner from Alabama and nominee for the Region III Award. His nomination was forwarded by Bill Walker, State Referee Administrator. He then competed against all other nominees from Region III. Hindman is looking forward to attending more regional and national level training and tournament events in the near future as he pursues his goal to upgrade from Grade 8 to Grade 7 in 2010. US Soccer says: Caleb Hindman has grown up playing the game since he was six years old, always learning and striving to accomplish more. As a referee he stays composed, seeks mentorship from senior referees and appreciates critiques after games. A Grade 8 referee and full-time student at Troy University, he has participated in US Youth Soccer ODP training, the Alabama State Championships and the Governor's Cup. When refereeing young children, he always makes sure they understand the reason for his calls.
CASOA is very proud of Caleb Hindman and wishes him many more years of success! |
